Practitioners have discovered Enzogenol as an effective
nutritional therapy to support children with symptoms
of hyperactivity, attention deficits and behaviour problems.
Several paediatricians specialising in the treatment of
children with ABC disorders have found Enzo Professional,
the high strength Enzogenol formulation, to be a very
useful adjunct treatment for children.
The ABC = Attention Behaviour Continuum comprises a number
of conditions that include Attention Deficit Disorder,

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are neurodevelopmental
disorders characterised by difficulties in communication
and by repetitive and stereotypic behaviours, as well
as by social impairment, attention, cognitive, and learning
defects.
ASDs have increased significantly to 1/150 children, and
the reasons for this increase are still not clear. There
is no reliable screening test, and no definite pathogenesis
or curative therapy. However, a recent review of publications
on ASDs pathogenesis and treatment with emphasis on neuroimmune
processes and new therapeutic approaches found increased
oxidative stress and immune dysregulation are present
in ASDs, and unique combinations with antioxidant and
anti-inflammatory flavonoids hold promise for mitigating
ASD.

Safety
Enzogenol® has no harmful side effects, unlike caffeine,
amphetamines and other cognitive enhancers such as Ritalin.
Enzogenol® does not increase blood pressure or heart rate,
stunt growth in children, nor does it have any potential
to be addictive.
The Science
The latest clinical
study on Enzogenol has investigated effects on cognitive
function in healthy people (Pipingas et al. 2008). This
study demonstrated improved performance on cognitive tasks
after only 5 weeks of treatment.
Important for the application in ADHD, Asperger’s and
Autism are the results from the neuroimaging analyses.
The Enzogenol study used steady-state probe topography
(SSPT) neuroimaging to investigate changes in brain activity
associated with the treatment.
This is a powerful technique established at the Brain
Sciences Institute (BSI) of Swinburne University in Melbourne.
With this method the researchers found significant changes
in patterns of brain activity that were associated with
the improved performance. Professor Silberstein of BSI
had previously studied the effects of methylphenidate
(Ritalin) on brain activities in children with ADHD using
the same technology, and found specific changes in the
way the kid’s brains worked after an acute dose of Ritalin.
It is these
effects of the drug in the brain that lead to the normalization
in behaviour and allow the children to concentrate better.
Interestingly, very similar changes were seen with the
Enzogenol, but these changes observed with Enzogenol were
milder and more supple than those observed with the drug
Ritalin.
These results have given some initial evidence that Enzogenol
may improve brain activities naturally to reach similar
effects to Ritalin but without the drug-sledgehammer and
the risk of side effects.
At this time we can only speculate on the possible
mechanisms of action that could explain the positive effects
Enzogenol has on children with behavioural problems. Possibilities

Affecting the antioxidant status – reducing free radical
oxidative stress.

Direct effects modifying signal transduction in the
CNS from phenolic compounds and their metabolites entering
circulation.

Indirect effects by influencing the gut-brain axis,
i.e.

reducing leaky gut symptoms that may contribute to,
or underlie, the behavioral phenotype.

affecting levels of circulating neuroactive compounds
originating from the enteric nervous system.

modifying/reducing negative effects of dietary antigens.

affecting metal load in the gut through strong metal-chelating
properties of the proanthocyanidin compounds in Enzogenol.
But...Enzogenol does
appear to work!
